Each summer since 2007, the Estuary Partnership has collaborated with the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park to offer a fun-filled week of nature exploration for campers entering grades 4-6. The camp is based out of Fort Clatsop in Astoria, Oregon but the adventures utilize a variety of local sites. The weeks' activities include paddling Big Canoes at Fort Stevens State Park, exploring and building sand sculptures at local beaches and hiking the Fort-to-Sea trail. Below is a tentative day-to-day itinerary for Nature Adventure Camp 2011:

After a morning of introductions, orientation and team-building games, campers hike to the Fort Clatsop visitors center to learn and practice survival skills in the tradition of Lewis and Clark.
Tuesday: Beach and Dune Exploration
(Sunset Beach)
Build sand sculptures, play games about adaptations and survey the unique plant habitat of the dunes.
Wednesday: Water Day
(Coffenbury Lake at Fort Stevens State Park)
Explore Coffenbury Lake in the Big Canoes. Campers will paddle and keep watch for wildlife, as well as participate in water-focused science experiments, boat building, water games, and races.

Meet the challenge of the 6+ mile Fort-to-Sea hike and end the week with an overnight in the Fort Clatsop bunks! Activities, games and surprises await campers along the trail; plus a chance to explore the Fort after dark!
